At Brain Enhancement Institute our goal is to raise a child’s learning ability one academic grade level each quarter.

We assess the child’s development from a neurobiological (brain function) perspective as well as from a skills set (functional..what the child can do at what level) standpoint.

We design an individualized program that creates a desire to learn within each child based on their current ability and ultimate academic potential.

We focus on developing and advancing the child’s neurodevelopment, which in turn allows academic progression.

Unlike typical classroom settings we do not keep plugging away at a skill set until we get “lucky”. And we do not move on to the next skill set level until the previous one is mastered with confidence. We also do not “back down” on the level of expectations only to boost self-esteem.

At Brain Enhancement Institute we focus on the following target areas:
Reading: decoding/phonics and comprehension
Writing: handwriting skills involving fine motor ability and motor planning, and creative writing skills with regard to cognition.
Speaking and Communication: articulation, intonation, expression, and pragmatics.
Mathematics
Spelling
Reasoning
Character Development/Personality
Organizational Skills Training
Study Habits
Learning Styles
Time Management Skills
Goal Setting
Memory Development
Note Taking
Test Taking
Stress Management
We break each of these target areas down into progressive steps from the very basics all the way to advanced levels. We use our neurodevelopment and skill set assessments to determine where to start in each target area. In other words, where the child is currently on the spectrum.

We utilize the child’s multiple intelligences to determine their specific learning styles. Using this information we tailor an academic program that will result in mastery learning and ultimately advanced learning.
” How to raise smarter Kids ”
call Wendi and find out when is the next workshop and see you soon.
Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs)
Are a group of related developmental disabilities, caused by a problem with the brain, that affect a child’s behavior, social, and communication skills. ASDs include autistic disorder, “pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified” (PDD-NOS) and Asperger Syndrome.

New data suggests that approximately 1 in 110 children have an ASD*. There is currently no cure for ASDs, however, children with an ASD can progress developmentally and learn new skills. The AAP strongly believes in the importance of early and continuous surveillance and screening for ASD to ensure that children are identified and receive access to services as early as possible. The sooner an ASD is identified, the sooner an intervention program can start.

Studies On The Causes of Autism
Studies have focused on the genetics of autism and the timing of the first
symptoms of autism.
Genetics of autism
One of the best ways to determine whether a particular disease or syndrome
is genetic is to examine the incidence in identical (monozygotic)
and fraternal (dizygotic) twins. Using a strict definition of autism, when
one twin has autism, 60% of identical and 0% of fraternal twins have
autism. Using a broader definition of autism (i.e., autistic spectrum disorder),
when one twin has autism, approximately 92% of identical and
10% of fraternal twins have autism. (8,9)
Therefore, autism clearly has a genetic basis.
Timing of development of autism
• Autism symptoms are present before 1 year of age
Perhaps the best data examining when symptoms of autism are first
evident are the “home-movie studies.” These studies took advantage
of the fact that many parents take movies of their children during their
first birthday (before they have received the MMR vaccine). Home
movies from children who were eventually diagnosed with autism and
those who were not diagnosed with autism were shown to blinded
neurodevelopmental specialists. Investigators were, with a very high
degree of accuracy, able to separate autistic from non-autistic children
at 1 year of age.(10-14)
These studies found that subtle symptoms of autism are present earlier
than some parents had suspected, and that receipt of the MMR vaccine
did not precede the first symptoms of autism.
• Autism symptoms are present before 4 months of age
Other investigators extended the home-movie studies of 1-year-old
children to include videotapes of children taken at 2-3 months of age.
Using a sophisticated movement analysis, videos from children eventually
diagnosed with autism or not diagnosed with autism were coded
and evaluated for their capacity to predict autism. Children who were
eventually diagnosed with autism were predicted from movies taken
in early infancy.(15)
This study supported the hypothesis that very subtle symptoms of autism
are present in early infancy and argue strongly against vaccines
as a cause of autism.
• Evidence that autism occurs in utero
Toxic or viral insults in utero as well as certain central nervous system
disorders are associated with an increase in the incidence of autism.
For example, children exposed to thalidomide during the first or early
second trimester were found to have an increased incidence of autism.(
16) However, autism occurred in children with ear, but not arm or
leg, abnormalities. Because arms and legs develop after 24 days gestation,
the risk period for autism following receipt of thalidomide must
be before 24 days gestation. In support of this finding, Rodier and
colleagues(17) found evidence for structural brainstem abnormalities in
children with autism
. Finally, children with fragile X syndrome or tuberous sclerosis are also
at increased risk of developing autism.
Taken together, these findings indicate that autism is likely due to abnormalities
of the central nervous system that occur in utero.
Summing Up
Studies of 1) the genetics of autism, 2) the timing of the first symptoms
of autism (home-movie studies), 3) the relationship between autism and
the receipt of the MMR vaccine, 4) the histopathology of the central nervous
system of children with autism, and 5) thalidomide, natural rubella
infection, fragile X syndrome, and tuberous sclerosis all support the fact
that autism occurs during development of the central nervous system early
in utero.

After-hours pediatric House Calls urgent practice fills void for urgent care for families in Newport Beach and Newport Coast.

Last week one of the parents asked me: Why do I make House Calls?
I said: “Because illnesses and accidents don’t always happen during business hours, over my last 20 years working with children It never fails that kids wait until 5:05 p.m. to sprain an ankle or show signs of ear infection.”
My goal is to provide an affordable alternative to expensive emergency room care for parents and their children. And at the same time, ensure that the children receive the same quality care they would from their primary care pediatrician. An emergency visit may cost close to a thousand dollars not to mention the lost value of our time.

While I am committed to providing our patients with excellent urgent care after hours, we are also committed to providing their primary care pediatrician with excellent follow-up information. This is why so many pediatricians refer their own patients to us time and time again.
We’re open 365 days a year, after your regular pediatrician’s office is closed
For after-hours appointments, call Dr. Bar’s cell 949 675- 6759 after 4 pm on weekdays and at any time on weekends and holidays.

We all want to keep our children safe and secure and help them live to their full potential. Knowing how to prevent leading causes of child injury, like poisoning, is a step toward this goal.

Every day, 374 children in the United States ages 0 to 19 are treated in an emergency department, and two children die, as a result of being poisoned. It’s not just chemicals in your home marked with clear warning labels that can be dangerous to children.

Everyday items in your home, such as household cleaners and medicines, can be poisonous to children as well. Active, curious children will often investigate—and sometimes try to eat or drink—anything that’s left out and within their reach.

Thankfully, there are ways you can help poison-proof your home and protect the children you love.

Prevention Tips
Lock them up. Keep medicines and toxic products, such cleaning solutions, in locked or childproof cabinets.

Know the number. Put the nationwide poison control center phone number, 1-800-222-1222, on or near every telephone in your home. You should also program it into your cellular phone. You can reach poison control centers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call poison control if you think a child has been poisoned and if they are awake and alert. Call 911 if you have a poison emergency and your child has collapsed or is not breathing.

Read the label. Follow label directions and read all warnings when giving medicines to children.

Don’t keep it if you don’t need it. Safely dispose of unused, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs. Be aware that if you dispose of unused medicines, they can be mixed with coffee grounds or kitty litter to make them less appealing to children.

Chick this link to the amazon store for simple thinks that you can get and use to child proof your home and make it safer for your child

Acne cure and best treatment How to get rid fo excessive sweating, underarm or palms.
Teen Spa Newport Beach

Sweaty underarms, excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, affects about one in 25 people. Excessive sweating can cause embarrassment, low self-esteem, and general discomfort in social situations. Hyperhidrosis occurs when sympathetic nerves cause sweat glands to produce too much sweat. The underlying cause is not known, but anxiety and other heightened emotional states can trigger the condition.

BOTOX® is the most popular treatment for excessive sweating of the palms and underarms. BOTOX® weakens the nerves that supply the sweat glands, preventing the release of acetylcholine, and therefore greatly reducing or eliminating sweating in the treated area. The amounts of BOTOX® used are not enough to significantly affect the muscle motion of the hand, although some very slight weakness is possible. BOTOX® treatment of hyperhidrosis lasts about one year. Other areas treated for excessive sweating include the soles of the feet. Dr. Bar believes that BOTOX® treatment of hyperhidrosis is simply the safest, most effective therapy we currently have for this disorder.

Breast feeding, pediatrician newport beach and newport coast best rated and board certified

I wish you all the best of luck with breast feeding and I would love to help and meet with you if you have any questions regarding breast feeding.
Visit our Eco-Baby workshops and join other loving parents in this great journey and learn together how we can raise our children healthy naturally.
Here are some tips for moms planning on Breast feeding from your local pediatrician Dr. Bar on how to produce more milk in the first weeks after the baby is born.
First remember drink 10 to 12 cups of water a day
Take your vitamins with the extra calcium and Iron and omega’s ( check our motherhood vitamins available in the office.)
Nap later during the day this will increase your milk supply ? how simple is that ?.
Eat a healthy balanced diet and here are some herbs to keep in mind that will help you make more milk just remember very important use organic herbs and small amounts.

 Fennel
Dill
Barley
Basil
Fenugreek tea
Cumin

Certain foods (known as galactagogue foods) are known to stimulate the production of breastmilk.

While herbs such as fenugreek and fennel have been used for centuries to increase a nursing mother’s milk supply, little is known about how herbs affect a nursing baby. Play it safe and use organic herbs and also small amounts and a variety of herbs not just one.

Fennel water
Fennel has been used for centuries to increase lactation. It is also believed to help digestion and prevent colic

Ingredients:
1-2 tablespoons fennel seeds
1 litre filtered water

Method:
Add fennel seeds to one litre of filtered water.
Bring the mixture to boil.
Lower the flame and let the mixture boil for another 10-minutes.
Remove from the flame. Allow it to cool till the water is warm.
Strain and store in a thermos, so that the water remains warm for several hours
Sip the fennel water all through the day. Continue doing this as long you are breastfeeding your baby, if possible.
Tip: You can also chew a teaspoonful few roasted fennel seeds after meals to aid digestion. Add fennel seeds to your tea, vegetables and soups for nutrition as well as an enhanced flavour.

Fennel tea

Believed to increase lactation and aid digestion.

Ingredients:
1-2 tsp powdered fennel seeds
2 cups water
1/2 – 1 tsp honey/sugar/jaggery (optional)

Dill (suwa) tea

Dill is believed to increase lactation and appetite. It may also reduce gas and colic. However since it is a mild diuretic it should be consumed in moderation.

Ingredients:
1-2 tsp crushed/powdered dill seeds
2 cups water

Method:
Boil the water in a pan and add the crushed/powdered dill seeds.
Cover and let the seeds steep for 10-15 minutes. Longer steeping makes a stronger tea.
Strain and pour into a cup. Add honey/sugar. Serve hot.
Have 1-2 cup a day

Barley and fennel water

Barley and fennel water is believed to increase low milk supply. It may take a week or two for the effect to show. In addition, this drink also eases gastric problems, constipation and colic, aids digestion and prevents colds.

Ingredients:
½ cup whole or pearled barley (bajra)
1-2 tsp of fennel seeds (saunf) or fennel powder
4 cups filtered water
½ – 1 tsp honey/sugar/jaggery (optional)

Method:
Wash barley grains well and soak them overnight in filtered water.
Strain and keep the water aside.
Now measure four cups of water, including the strained water as it carries the nutrients of barley, and add it to soaked barley grains.
Add fennel seeds to the mixture and bring to boil. Lower the flame and let it simmer for another 10 minutes. Remove from the flame and allow it to stand for another 10 minutes.
Strain and pour into a clean thermos so that it stays warm for several hours.
Drink this water throughout the day.
You may want to add honey/sugar/jaggery to increase the taste.
Note: Do bear in mind that the longer barley simmers the thicker the consistency. Add more water to dilute the mixture to a pouring consistency.
Tip: For a variation and different flavour you may want to use fenugreek (methi) powder instead of fennel seeds.

Basil water

Basil is believed to stimulate milk flow and an excellent source of carotene, niacin, thiamine and iron. It calms the nerves and initiates the let-down reflex. It aids digestion, reduce flatulence and increase appetite. You can also add basil leaves to your tea, milk, soups and cooked vegetables.

Ingredients:
7-8 fresh basil leaves
1 cup filtered water
½-1tsp honey (optional)

Method:
In a pan add water and crushed/finely chopped basil leaves.
Bring the mixture to boil.
Simmer and let the leaves steep for about 5 minutes.
Remove from the flame and sieve through a cup.
Add honey to taste. Serve warm.
Have 1-2 cups a day.
Fenugreek tea

Research shows that mothers report an increase in their milk supply within two to four days after taking the herb.

Ingredients:
1-3 tsp of crushed fenugreek seeds (methi seeds)
1 cup filtered water
½-1tsp honey (optional)

Method:
In a pan add water and fenugreek seeds.
Bring the mixture to boil.
Simmer and let the leaves steep for about 5 minutes. Cover and let the seeds steep for 5-10 minutes or longer to make a strong tea.
Remove from the flame and sieve through a cup.
Add honey to taste. Serve warm.
Have 1-2 cups a day.
Note: The tea has a characteristic bitter taste and it may take you a few days to develop a taste for it.
Cumin water

Cumin seeds are believed to help milk production. This drink also aids digestion and helps relieving constipation, bloating and gas.

Ingredients
1 litre filtered water
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)

Method:
Add cumin seeds to one litre of filtered water.
Bring the mixture to boil.
Lower the flame and let the mixture stand for another 15-20 minutes.
Let it cool till the water is lukewarm.
Store the water along with cumin seeds in a thermos to ensure it stays warm for several hours.
Take sips of this water all through the day.
Tip: You can also try chewing few dry roasted cumin seeds every morning. Adding cumin seeds to your everyday cooking will help.
